Genesis 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;
Genesis 2:17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die."
So how is knowledge of good and evil linked to death?🤷🏼♂️
It's easier to understand this by looking at what life is. According to the bible,life was only given to man:
Genesis 2:7 Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
A lot of people think that the breath of life is the one that turned dust into flesh,but the animals also have flesh made out of dust,yet God did not put the breath of life into them.🤔
So in other words,the breath of life is what separated man from all other creatures by giving him life. All other creatures breath,but they don't have a life;there's no difference between a bird and a stone.What keeps them breathing is the knowledge of good and evil. All creatures know what is good for them and what is bad for them,a baby zebra doesn't need to be taught that a lion kills,It's born with that knowledge.
But the life of man did not come from his knowledge,rather it was powered by will and purpose. Before man sinned,he had a defined purpose of taking care of the garden,and whatever he willed it happened so, as seen in Gen 2:19:
Genesis 2:19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.
When man ate the fruit,he lost his "life" will and purpose,and became like any other breathing creature. The only thing that could make him breath was the knowledge of good and evil,he now had to run away from the lion just like any other creature in order to survive.
But because God loved the world 🤗,He made a plan to restore man back to life,by sending His son to die on his behalf. Once we accept the life of Jesus,our purpose and will is restored again and we no longer need to live according to the flesh ( knowledge of good and evil).
When Jesus died for us,it's not his flesh that he sacrificed,but rather His life "will and purpose":He stepped down from the highest position to the lowest
Corinthians 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.
John 6:38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.
It is because of Him that we now have an identity once again,God can now recognize us as His Children,and even the world should see the life that is in us. He also gave us the Holy spirit so that He gives us the power to act upon our will once again,and whatever we shall say,it must happen.
Let's us praise the Lord for the life He gave us.🙏🏽
